The Distribution of Saches in The UK and Germany

The name SACH occurs most frequently in Essex.  The total number of Saches in the UK in the year 2002 based on data from Electoral Rolls and Phone Books is 587 and the distribution of them  is shown  below.  (No account is taken of people under the age of 18 or of spelling variants)  The data is a plot of post codes where Saches are resident so that there can be more than one Sach at each location.  The distribution of Saches throughout the UK in the past, as determined from all the Sach data in the IGI,  and the 1881 census is broadly similar,  with at least 50% living  in Essex and about 10% in London. There has however been a shift in distribution within Essex from an area within in 30 miles of Chelmsford  before 1851, to the south of the county which reflects the change from an agricultural based economy to an industrial one.

In Europe most of the Saches occur in either the UK or Germany. There are very few in France (3),  The Netherlands or Belgium but  there are a small number  in Austria (about 21), but   mainly they are in the Nordhein-Westfallen, Baden-Worttemberg, and Hamburg regions of Germany.
